NON-CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Believe it or not, you can help in a number of ways. Leadville/Lake County Fire-Rescue has several non-career programs designed for people just like you… people who want to help their community.
Do I Have To Be A Firefighter In Order To Help?
No. Through its Fire CorpsProgram, Leadville/Lake County Fire-Rescue is looking for people who would like to help with non-emergency functions, such as office administration, web-page design, community education and more. Depending on the level of training they wish to receive, Fire Corps members may also provide emergency incident support.

Through the County-wide Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, Leadville/Lake County Fire-Rescue can assist you with getting involved even if you do not have time for firefighter training and certification. CERT members receive training in basic disaster response and, depending upon the level of training they wish to receive, may also provide basic emergency response in outlying areas.

Can I Be A Firefighter?
Sure. Under our Reserve Firefighter program, LLCFR offers two was for people such as yourself to become non-career firefighters:
Reserve Firefighters must already have their basic firefighter certification (FF I), or attend one of our basic Firefighter and Wildland Firefighter Academies, learning all aspects of fire fighting and emergency response. Reserve Firefighters provide a minimum of 36 hours per month of shift time, functioning as fire-rescue personnel. This position is often attractive to community members who wish to help as well as those who desire to earn a career in the fire-rescue service.
Resident Firefighters attend Colorado Mountain College, earning a degree in Fire Science while providing shift time as certified firefighters. Resident Firefighters live in the dormitories at CMC and receive significant training and education incentives.
