Burn Permits

Leadville/Lake County Fire Rescue issues burn permits. Persistent cool and moist weather patterns has made it possible for the Fire Department to resume issuing burn permits, which are good for thirty days at a time. LLCFR will re-evaluate the issuance of burn permits should the weather change to warmer drier patterns.

Items which may be burned with the issuance of a burn permit include natural vegetation (e.g. slash) and wood products which have not been treated in any way, such as dimensional lumber that has not been water-sealed, painted or had glue applied to it. Recreational and cooking fires less than 3 feet in diameter, 2 feet in height and which are confined within fire proof containers do not require burn permits.

Persons interested in obtaining a burn permit should visit the Fire Department during regular business hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM).  A copy of the burn permit can be downloaded here, LAKE COUNTY BURN PERMIT.pdf.

Once the permit is filled out, bring it to the Fire Department during regular business hours (8:00 Am to 5:00 PM) for approval.
