Lake County Recreation Facilities

Lake County owns, operates and maintains numerous public recreation facilities. Some of these facilities are free to the public while others require user fees or reservations. We strive to provide facilities that are safe, well-maintained, and frequently utilized. Let us know how we are doing. For information about reserving or renting a facility, call 719-486-7484 or visit our Facility Rental page.

 
 PoolLake County Swimming Pool
 Constructed with funds from Great Outdoors Colorado, the Department
 of Local Affairs, and numerous other donors, the pool is an outstanding
 asset for Lake County. Visit the pool home page for more

Mineral Belt Trail.jpg Mineral Belt Trail
 Completed in 2000, the Mineral Belt Trail is a 12-mile paved pathway that
 circles historic Leadville. Walkers, joggers, cyclists and in-line skaters loop
 the trail in summertime, while Nordic skiers and snowshoers enjoy the

Lake County Community Park.JPG Lake County Community Park & Fairgrounds
 Located at W. 6th & McWethy Drive, this facility boasts a
 rodeo arena, children’s playground, indoor restrooms, and the highest
 synthetic turf sports field in the world! With the Mineral Belt Trail and pool
 immediately adjacent, this facility has now become Recreation Central for

Volleyball championship 047.jpg Sixth Street Gym
 Hear the ghosts of players past when you step through the doors of this
 Lake County icon. Constructed in the 1920s, this gym with balcony seating
 continues to serve a full schedule of weekly events. Major repairs carried
 out by the Maintenance Department from 2006-2008 have now extended
 the life of this gym for decades more to come. The gym is located at
 124 East Sixth Street.

 Lake County maintains numerous softball and baseball fields for use by our
 adult softball leagues and Skyline Little League. The largest facility, Leiter
 Field, is located at the end of West Fifth Street. The outfield grass is
 frequently used for additional sports and programs.

 Lake County is home to the newest and best singletrack in the state!

Mt Massive.jpg Mount Massive Golf Course
 Only one golf course can be highest in North America, and Lake County
 has it. Visit the Mount Massive Golf Course website for information
 about our scenic and challenging links. MMGC also hosts multiple wintertime
 events—including dog joring, dogsledding, and groomed Nordic trails.

 Located at the end of West Fifth Street, the ice rink is open from December to
 March, weather permitting. At 30,000 square feet, this is one of the largest
 manmade rinks in Colorado! The facility features skate rentals, a snack bar,
 warming hut, and a great sound system. Now open 3:30-9pm Monday-Sunday!
  
 
 
 
tubing.jpg Dutch Henri Sledding Hill
 Dutch Henri Sledding Hill is the highest, fastest sledding hill in all of Colorado -
 and it’s just a one minute drive south of downtown on Highway 24! Tube rental
 is available on Saturdays and Sundays during the winter. As always, if you bring
 your own sled, the hill is completely free. Notice: Dutch Henri Hill is now open for tube rental on Saturday and Sundays from 11am - 5pm.

 Independently managed but owned by Lake County, Ski Cooper is one of the
 last remaining ski areas to resist the trend of unbridled development and expansion. 
 The result is a high-quality, un-crowded, and friendly experience that has been
 shared by generations of Colorado families.
 
 
 
 
hayden meadows.jpg Hayden Meadows
 Constructed in 2004 along the banks of the Arkansas River, this small reservoir
 and network of nature paths is an excellent location for fishing and family picnics. 
 Take Highway 24 south of Leadville for eight miles, and look for signage on the
 left side of the highway.
 
 
 
 Kiddie Corral.jpgCommunity Parks
The Lake County Public Works Department maintains numerous parks
 throughout Lake County. Among these are the Kiddie Corral (9th & Poplar), Ice Palace Park (Harrison & 11th), Huck Finn Park (6th & James), Kendrick Park (accessible via the golf course parking lot), and Lake County Community Park (McWethy & 6th).

 Rocky Mtn. Bowmen Archery Range
 The archery range is located south of Leadville at the end of County Road 23A. 
 Turn south off of Highway 24 at the airport exit, and follow the signs. The range is
 operated and maintained by the Rocky Mountain Bowmen Archery Club.
 
 
 
 
Leadville Junction.jpg Leadville Junction
 This large parking area at the junction of County Roads 9 and 9A provides an
 exceptional gateway to the snowmobiling trails surrounding Turquoise Lake. Park
 your trailer, unload your sled, and pull back the throttle!
 
 
 
 
 Middle School.jpg
 Middle School Activity Center
 Although owned by Lake County School District, the Middle School gymnasium
 is frequently utilized for County-run drop-in community recreation. Activities range
 from basketball to racquetball to use of the indoor running track. The school is
 located at 1000 West 6th Street.
