The Lake County Sheriff's Office is situated within Lake County, Colorado, and the county seat is Leadville.  The Sheriff's Office is located at 505 Harrison Ave. and is open 24 hours a day.  The Sheriff's Office runs the county jail, which was built in 1955 and needs to be fully replaced very soon.  Lake County is situated within the central mountains of Colorado and the city of Leadville is recognized as the higheset incorporated city within the lower 48 states.  Lake County encompasses approximately 384 square miles of territory and the most recent population estimates show the population at approximately 7,600 people.  Lake county is forcasted to become one the top 5 Colorado counties in population growth by percentage.

Lake County was one of the original 17 counties of Colorado and was formed on November 1st, 1861.  The history of Lake county and Leadville is storied and extensive.  Much can be found if you are interested in relation to the history of the area.  Lake County has an abundance of activities for all seasons and has several large bodies of water for camping and recreation.  Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive are 2 of the most popular "14er's" in the state and are both within Lake County.   

The Sheriff's Office consists of multiple divisions, which includes Command/Administration, Operations (Patrol & Investigations), Detentions, Court Services, and Dispatch.

We have speciality areas as well, which includes a K-9 program, Victim's Advocates, and the Special Operations Group (SOG), which is a joint venture with the Leadville Police Department.
