The Lake County Sheriff's Office has a full-time Investigations Division. Cases or inquires related to possible Investigations are initially channeled through the Patrol Division for efficiency and screening.
Investigators are assigned to a case designated as either persons or property crimes, where they manage follow-up investigations until conclusion. Due to the complex nature of some types of crimes, we may ask outside "investigative specialists" to assist in our efforts to provide complete and thorough investigative services.
Investigators may also assigned to participate with local, regional, or state, task forces that combat terrorism, illegal use of drugs, auto theft, fugitives from justice and computer/cell phone forensics. When a major crime occurs (such as Robbery or Homicide), we follow the principles of the Incident Command System and may partner with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to produce the most effective and professional results.
